Re: Women On Submarines Considered

The "Love Boat" cruise wasn't the Stennis. It was a supply ship or a tender on a 5th Fleet cruise, including the Persian Gulf.

Re: Women On Submarines Considered

I have seen what goes on aboard US carriers, even when just going out to sea for a 2 week det for pilot Carrier Qualifications. I'm not the most handsome of men, but every time I was at sea, I got propositioned at least once every 4 days. On one carrier, we were out for only 10 days, but 16 Sailors ...

F-22: Air Superiority Fighter
F-35: Strike Fighter

Think of it like the F-15 and the F/A-18

Re: Falklands again?

If it were to flare up again, I'd expect a couple of RN subs to pop the Argentine airfields and other targets with Tomahawks rather quickly. Game over.

Re: Know any U.S. cities seeking USS JFK as museum ship?

I don't know why any city would want that rustbucket. I went to sea many times abord the JFK, and she was absolutely horrible. Her material condition was abysmal, and the crew morale was even worse. There were holes in the catwalks big enough for a man to fall through, and they were patched with ply...

Re: What New/Remake War Movies Are Needed?

Karl, That one particular scene with Rachel was worth the ticket price. Don't get me wrong, I watch "Midway" at least once per year, but that's the battle I've studied since I built my first model ship (CV-6), and the historical inaccuracies just drove me nuts as an 11-year old when it cam...

Re: What New/Remake War Movies Are Needed?

As for Stalingrad, there was "Enemy at the Gates"....I know, I know...it sucked. "Midway" wasn't toooooo bad, but even as a kid I was nitpicking it to death for accuracy. I'd love to see a new movie about Midway based on the book "Shattered Sword", even though computer ...

Re: JSF Delayed Again: Pushed Back 13 Months

The Chosen One? Why am I not supposed to look at this as racial bigotry? Nothing racial about it. He was chosen by the media and the Democratic Party (okay, I repeated myself there) in spite of his complete lack of qualifications and his history of anti-American activities and marxist-socialist bel...

Re: P-47 Thunderbolt: The USAAF's Best Pursuit Aircraft

A longtime neighbor of my family's flew the A-36 version of the Mustang and transitioned to the P-47. He definitely preferred the Jug. Most of his missions were interdiction, not air-to-air.

Re: JSF Delayed Again: Pushed Back 13 Months

Let's not forget that Sukhoi has just test flown their own 5th generation stealth fighter, and it was designed to be equal or better than the F-22. Chalk up another move by The Chosen One to diminish our capabilities.

Re: Greatest warship of all time

...Now would that loss call for a court martial hearing? ... Not sure if it was true in WWII or in the British navy but I'm pretty sure at one point it was SOP to hold a court martial whenever a ship was lost at least in the USN. A court martial, or a Court of Inquiry? I suspect the latter was even...

After the implosion in one of the barrels aboard the Iowa in 1989 (I think it was that year) she would perhaps not be a "favourable" candidate for the gun sequence in a movie from 1992. The Missouri and Wisconsin were both busy in the Gulf war around this time. Is the New Jersey a likely ...
