Re: Japanese 5"/50 vs 3.9"/65

I don't recall making a comparison with the 5in/38  The "wow" comment was just a reaction to the 44in length of the single-loading cartridge and the very high MV of the Japanese gun. Actually Byron, taking out the fire control issues and only looking at the "gun" itself, I ...

Re: Japanese 5"/50 vs 3.9"/65

The IJN 3.9in was designed for all angle loading with power ramming and a loading tray. The 5in/50 used fixed angle loading, with no loading tray and was hand rammed.
Are perhaps these are the issues that added a fair amount of weight of the mount perhaps Dunmunro?

Re: Japanese 5"/50 vs 3.9"/65

No, not really. What I can say is the USN 5"/50 was too heavy to be a practical AA weapon. It had slow elevation and traverse, and a slow rate of fire compared to the 5"/38. The IJN may have been dealing with a similar state of affairs. Fully aware of that, the Japanese 5"/50 was a D...

Re: Senator Ted Cruz for US President?

Wackos? LOL. That is an easy way to shunt aside an inconvenient issue instead of looking too closely at their scheme in comparison to the gigantic expansion and sky-rocketing costs of the American welfare state. You do not consider it "any type of movement" or "party goal"? I'll...

Re: Senator Ted Cruz for US President?

However, I do feel that people (especially those with means) have a moral obligation to help the poor and the needy, the sick and the inflicted, and the helpless. I just think it should mostly be voluntary, rather than compelled . Ain't gonna happen. There will be a few that try to help, but most w...

Re: Senator Ted Cruz for US President?

Kennedy's first tax reform was to dramatically slash the corporate rates as early as 1962. That is and was a good idea. It would take some of the incentives away from moving a company overseas. We compared to the rest of the World tax our corporations more and our wealthy citizens less. I am in fav...

Re: Senator Ted Cruz for US President?

But it is their money. They earned it. It does not belong to the collective. It is immoral to confiscate it. There are a lot of things that could be considered immoral. At looks as though you think a progressive tax scale is immoral. Lets look at it another way - is it immoral for someone because t...

Re: Senator Ted Cruz for US President?

Cloward-Pivens Well, you can find some wackos anywhere, but I would not consider this philosphy any type of a movement nor a party goal. Gary, perhaps in your zeal you don't realize, that I feel your in some cases putting words in my (and others) mouth or implying that I must support a particular p...

Re: Senator Ted Cruz for US President?

You know all that talk of "Tyranny"? We had almost unchecked capitalism in the early 1900's. Corporations were free to enforce their own laws, higher mercenaries to break up strikes. I think unchecked Capitalism breeds tyranny, only that the tyrants are the leaders of the financial oligarc...

Re: Senator Ted Cruz for US President?

I understand where you are coming from philosophicaly, but it really does not match the facts about tax rates. And I think you know what I am going to say, i.e. I think you are familiar with the history of fed tax rates. The standard push from the right seems to be to state what you have stated abou...

Japanese 5"/50 vs 3.9"/65

Had a question comparing these two common Japanese destroyer weapons of ww2. The 5" Fires a heavier shell, the gun itself is about 33% heavier than the 3.9" Gun. But the dual mount of the 3.9" is actually about 2000kg heavier than the 5" dual mount, about 32.5k Kg for the 5"...

Re: Senator Ted Cruz for US President?

Fact remains is that global temperatures are not rising. That information comes from within the IPCC itself. What do you mean here? That is past few years we have not seen an increase? From everything I have seen, it's pretty clear that the temperatures are rising. We can debate why, but not if. I'...

Re: Senator Ted Cruz for US President?

Flippant and patronising comments and attitude do nothing to advance your case. OK, I'd agree, I went a bit too far with the rant. My apologies. I've received similar on this thread, though not from you. Circumstantial? Circumstantial yes. While the facts are true, it implies but not specify that m...
