Who would want to watch that anyway?

I think 1940 around the French Fleet, in particular the Jean Bart would make a great movie. In particular as it would be hard to draw a black white picture of good and bad and it would not have a silly happy end that in real war just doesn't exist.

RF, you're right, but so is lwd. Refueling at sea is not a small thing to do when trying to break out into the Atlantic and involves a few strategic risks.

The Yamato did not have enough fuel to make a high speed cruise or even a top speed cruise and go all the way from Norway via Denmark Strait to Brest. At 27 knots you could run the machinery for 100 hours before the fuel runs out, considering secondary fuel consumers this gives a range of about 2150...

I think they may have run out of fuel before getting there.

Two of my favorites are Das Boot and Full Metal Jacket. I also consider Letters from Iwo Jima a good war movie.

I think it is more like a "had Germany had these ships" rather than a "had the US or Japan had their ships in that place" kind of question.

The US ships are fast enough to shake off the pursuing Norfolk and Suffolk. They'd be really hard to intercept and, with the late war radar, they'd probably be a really tough match in a battle. From height to length I'd estimate 30° and from the position of the mast I'd estimate 25°. I can't make out the tip of gaff Vic talks about. It isn't smart to extrapolate from a that short basis anyway. I also wonder who came up with 45°?

How can you be so dismissive? I haven't read a single witness report from PG that contains your statements wrt fall of shot of Hood's fire. So instead of disregarding other people work you might want to use it to improve your own, as it isn't perfect.
