I read ones that Manheim was the target number one for an atomic bomb. Do you have a source for Munich and Nürnberg?
Thanks in advance

Re: Germans in WWII having Iowa class battleships
The German Iowa's were named H I J K L and M. If the war didn't start in 1939, the first two would have been commissioned in 1941/42

Question:
KM used it's main artillery against bomber and torpedo bomber attacks to disturb the approach. Was this uncommon in the RN?

Re: Formula for defeat? The Luftwaffe
The Luftwaffe had plans for a strategic bomber like the Ju 89 as early as 1936. After Walter Wever died, plans were changed because one could build 2.5 medium bomber like the HE111 for one Ju89. In the 30s the HE 111 was faster than Allied fighters. The LLuftwaffe did count on it. And did not develo...

I don't think his distant Jewish background or sympathies (I believe he was one eigth Jewish from his great grandparents?) needed to be covered up not least because (as Kennedy records) of his protest against the Krystallnacht pogrom. Being a Kriegsmarine officer and at sea placed him at arms lengt...

If memory serves, Siemens was involved in the turbo electric drive. BS machinery was built by Blomand Voss. Tirpitz was equipped with machinery from BBC

Re: should have the prinz eugen stayed with the bismarck ?
It PG would be able to keep BS bow directed to France and both ships managed to escape Tovey, who tried to cache up until the last moment. Lack of fuel and the Luftwaffe prevented this.

But at that point Lutjens wasn't anticipating British heavy units - Intelligence was telling him they were still at Scapa - so the pack ice theory or an intimidatory move versus suspected cruisers might be a better explanation. Yes Paul, but at 5:45 there could have been very very little doubt abou...

It might be nitpicking, but I question that the ever got an direct order from Lütjens. It was most likely an order from Schneider

When memory serves, than the Walter boat development started in the 30. Dönitz found out as late as 1942 or 43and iimproved priority. It was decided in late 43 or 44 to replace the Walter turbine with electric drive

The criticism on Leach is really Monday morning quarterbacking. He took a decision in a very serious moment if the battle and it turned out favourable for his ship and the RN. One could wonder about the comments in this or similar forum when he would have re-engaged got some additional crippling hit...
