Re: Two Photos

I just wonder, was HP without camouflage ever together with TP? Let's have a look: 21st October 1941: HP on 'Werftprobefahrt' (I'm not sure about the correct English term, it's the first shy trial after a refit, the ship is still in the 'hands' of the shipyard personel - or at least they are on boar...

Re: NH69722 - Battle? Or exercise in the Baltic?

That's a good point but I'm not totally convinced. I think we need a high quality version of NH69722 to be sure that there is really no rack visible. I think there is - but I may be wrong. But then there would be still the white line to be discussed - and of course the ship and the heavy cloud in th...

Re: NH69722 - Battle? Or exercise in the Baltic?

I am now pretty certain that NH69722 was taken from the deck of Hipper and not PG. Certain details have come to light which seem to confirm this and I am working on the photos now and will hope fully be able to present my findings soon. All is not entirely what it at first seems. Vic Dale Now this ...

Re: Two Photos

To be honest, I really can't tell if they are 'relaxed', the quality of that photo is simply not good enough. I don't think it is serious to judge only from the body language of some 'shadows' standing around there. With regard to incoming shells, from what I've heard, those shells could be seen and...

Re: Two Photos

There would be no necessity for the target ship in a gunnery throw-off shoot to go to action stations. It is an exercise for training the firing ship in the procedures for opening fire at a moving target. That is the likely explanation why there are no anti-flash hoods worn in NH69723. Many exercis...

Re: Two Photos

The white lines are an interesting fact which broadens our understanding - marginally - but the fact that they can be seen on a photo which is clearly from an exercise, which includes a main battery shoot, the use of depth charges and the oiling rig shows that the lines were there in the Baltic, de...

Re: Two Photos

I know, an English native should do the job, but babelfish? Trying to test my German sense of humour, eh? Pass it again through babelfish, EN>GE, and let's see what we get then, HA! As we’re leaving the cabin, the men are folding down the forecastle and poop deck railing. This means another s...

This thin white line will probably be difficult to represent on my model ... hmmm ...

Ok, I'm lost ... Can anybody please enlighten me what is going on in this thread? It seems to be off-topic in itself. Or a few messages in between seem to have been deleted. You all are jumping from one topic to another. There are many out there who are reading this, without getting involved, and ma...

Re: Bismarck's Radar at Denmark Strait

Hi all ~ I would just like to point out that BS had no FuMO 21 at the forward facing side of the conning tower. I can only assume that you are referring to the two enlongated sheet metal strips with sheet steel angles on either end - just above the Admiral's Bridge. They had nothing to do with radar...

Re: The Hit in Bismarck's bow

Vic, it's really hard to tell from this photo and as you pointed out, drawing a battle map upon photos leads to disaster. I'll try it anyway, if this photo was really taken at DS, which I believe it was, then, from my understanding, there are not many possibilities where BS was in such a distance fr...

Re: weird scharnhorst picture mystery

I've seen it in a couple of pictures but never could really identify it. It probably was removed at the outbreak of war, or shortly thereafter, as to eliminate any kind of identification mark (or they were just afraid of them getting damaged in battle?). Maybe this happened in line with the removal ...

Re: Battle Tracks at Denmark Strait

Below I have produced a most rudimentary presentation to illustrate how Bismarck may have come across the range at 0620 and from this it is possible to see separation reducing back to about 3000m. I have no way of verifying that this happened at present, but it does seem a likely explanation, or so...

Re: Tirpitz camo August 1939

Antonio I was looking for a hi-res photo of this camo. The one on the internet is very poor. Probably a copy of a copy of a copy....from some book. Also: what was the other side like? I know the Normandie/Lafayette had camo only on the starboard side because the other side was against the dock and ...
