Re: Bismarck reconstitution

Eeehhh ... Patrick ... Bismarck IS firing to port/larboard in nimitz' illustration ... @ nimitz ~ You spent a lot of time and research into this, but is there a way you can get the colours closer to what they have been on the actual ship? I mean, all the shades caused by lighting and everthing are f...

Re: Speed - Bismarck versus Scharnhorst/Gneisenau

I remember from my time in the German Navy, on a 1969 US-built Charles F. Adams class, also steam-driven, that there was always - at least the possibility to run it on 105% or more (whatever that means in technical terms... steam pressure?)... in 1988 "we" (before my time) were tracked on...

Re: Norfolk & Suffolk - Engage ?

Is it really a good idea trying to keep a battleship (+ PG) busy with two heavy cruisers (and maybe trying to force it to change course a bit)? Resp : This I do not understand Just think about N & S would have made a faster approach on the starboard quarter of the German formation. Maybe the Ge...

Re: Norfolk & Suffolk - Engage ?

I am not so sure that N& S could not join in since the beginning if they really wanted to, … How distant do you think they were at 05.52 from the German units ? Antonio, okay, now I got it. I think the circumstances just ruled out following the "KM basic engagement rules". N & S ~...

Re: Norfolk & Suffolk - Engage ?

So, we have to recognize and congratulate Adm Lutjens for the risk decision taken first, and second for the very acute decision on concentrating the fire on the leading ship,...... the Hood. I'm not sure about to 'congratulate' for the first decision ... To quote myself: There was little to do for ...

Re: Norfolk & Suffolk - Engage ?

(...) forced Bismarck to turn to port to engage, which in turn would have allowed the British cruisers to close in quickly. The same applies to PG if he had been ordered to stay in Bismarck's fire lee or to stay out of trouble at all. If we're talking about fire lee: How far would the Prinz have ha...

Re: Norfolk & Suffolk - Engage ?

BS fired five (?) salvoes at Norfolk around 20:30 on May 23rd when Norfolk came out of a rain cloud (?) at quite a close distance to the German formation. PG did not open fire. The mission was to reach the Atlantic, not to get damaged by a lucky hit when fighting down enemy warships. I think visibil...

Re: Tirpitz deck plans

Dear Mark ~ Sorry for the late reply, I didn't notice this thread before ... I assume you have solved the problem with the "Twistkiste"? Btw, I had a look at your website, esp. the Tirpitz section and I noticed some ... eeehh ... unusual translations of the German deck names. Don't get me ...

Don´t worry for me, I´ll buy them! But don´t say it too load because my wife will have her own idea about this gung ho conduct of mine... Yeah, it's not easy to keep domestic harmony in balance when the stash-fleet is growing faster than you can turn it into a model-fleet ... Happy modell...

Re: White Lines on Prinz Eugen's Deck

This photo which is thought to be Scharnhorst imobilised after striking a mine during the Channel Dash, shows PG to be sporting a white line on the deck, yet there are no other photos supposedly taken during the "Dash" which shows her with a white line Copy of lastscan PG white line.jpg S...

Hi all ... Just look the Hipper March 1941 and the early 1942 drawinsg here in and you will understand what I mean. *I* understand what you mean.
