Re: What if no Normandy landings at all
The A4 is the V2! A4 is Aggregat-4 = V2 And I have written, what perhaps would happen after a fictional atomic bomb drop at germany! Toxic warheads were produced in Nazi Germany from primary sources, but after the experiences at WWI and especially Hitler's own experiences (he was blind for several m...

Re: What if no Normandy landings at all
Also do not forget, that Nazi Germany had thousand of tons of Sarin and Tabun with the A4 as a long range military plattform, which was unstoppable. To my sources the allieds knew about the Sarin and Tabun and also about the A4 and it's potential. Nazi germany wasn't absolut defenseless against weap...

Re: Best choice for 45000 tons battleship
The problem with shortening Bismarck's citadel by having only three turrets is that the protected volume may become insufficient. Bismarck's main armour deck is one deck lower than Vanguards, so that Vanguard has more protected volume despite a shorter citadel. I'm aware of this problem, but I thin...

Re: Best choice for 45000 tons battleship
Vanguard is very close to the weight limit. At 45200 tons standard. The turrets would have to be changed for me from the four twin turrets to four triple turrets with 15 inch guns. How should this be possible? Three triple turrets perhaps but 4 triple turrets with the same weight is impossible or t...

Re: high-pressure superheated steam boilers
2./ From what I was able to reseach the V24 motors designed by MAN where all medium speed 4 strokes and not double-acting slow speed diesels. All VZ12Z engines V 24 cylinder were double acting 2 stroke engines, same as the MZ family from the Panzerschiffe and the training ship Bremse. Rpm was 390 U...

Re: Refitted Richelieu versus Tirpitz , 1943
To me Richelieu is a very interesting BB. I think her armour layout and the very compact building are very good, also her speed was very good. She the only BB ever in service that fullfilled all three categories in a "treaty" BB. Speed + 30kn, +8 guns + 15 inch and good armour protection, ...

Re: high-pressure superheated steam boilers
Unlike turbines and boilers, which can wait to be installed after a hull has already reached an advanced state of construction, diesel engines of the time needed to be completed and ready for installation very early in a hulls construction since their bedding was much more extensive and the engines...

Re: high-pressure superheated steam boilers
Hello Paul L, my sources to the MAN Diesel are all in german: Source: Werner F.G. Stehr, »Unbekannter Motor für KM-Kreuzer wiederentdeckt«, in: Marine-Arsenal Special Band 3, Podzun-Pallas 1995 This source gives the complete development history of the MAN diesel engines till the VZ12 family, with ye...

Re: high-pressure superheated steam boilers
This last post is interesting. Given the diesel technology used for the panzerschiffe I was always puzzled about the next class of ship, the Scharnhorsts, weren't made diesel powered with the next generation of large diesel engines - instead the Germans went back to turbines. The problem was the ne...

Re: Lutjens' Intentions
Have any source for this claim? Her bow was only 2 degree deeper and she has not a single problem with the stern or her shafts, from the sources I read. Where come this absurd claims? It's realy bewildered how the battle damage of Bismarck is here exaggerated. Her battle damage wasn't at anytime ser...

Re: Scharnhorst Vs a KGV
It would still require a range of 28.000 yards to perforate the 105mm MAD. Here I disagree alecsandros. If a shell (14 inch GB), will penetrate above 20000 yards the 2,30 m hight, 45mm upper belt, it was possible for the shell to travel direct to the 80mm main deck (above the machinary) and could p...

Re: Scharnhorst Vs a KGV
That's not the point. The KM via GKDOS thought that the belt/scarf could be penetrated, and KM estimates of RN performance are probably fairly close to reality as they had the almost exact MV and weight of the RN 15in. Source for this claim? When and where get the germans the exact datas. To my sou...

Re: Scharnhorst Vs a KGV
You want to tell me, that the germans had the exact datas of the british guns? Muzzle velocity, kg of the shells, nose shape, angle of fall? When did Germany tests the british 15 inch guns against their KC/nA? This was an estimation! We know the exact datas today, but the german writers of the GKDOS...

Re: Scharnhorst Vs a KGV
You are aware that NAAB is written from Nathan Okun, who is the most biased man I know, when it comes to german armour quality. His data's to german Wh armour are simply wrong, you can read this at the Neavyweaps forum and through the countless primary sources, which have Thorsten Wahl and delcyros ...
