Gentlemen,
Yet another question for you! After the war a number of senior German military were tried at Nuremberg including Keitel and Manstein, if Rommel had survived the war would he also have been put on trial?

Tiger V Firefly
Gentlemen, having watched a TV program recently where a Sherman Firefly ambused and defeated Tiger tank commanded by the famous Micheal Wittmann I was curious to know whether or not the Firefly was considered by the allies as the equal of the Tiger both in armour and firepower. It appears that the s...

Re: What if Hitler had listened to his Generals?
Gentlemen, Once again many thanks for your thought provoking replies, I suppose he would not have considered invading if he had also listened to his senior naval staff who, by many accounts thought it would end in disaster. I have often wondered if there was any truth in the theory that the allies d...

Re: What if Hitler had listened to his Generals?
Ouch! It does'nt look to good for us Brits then. I suppose he would still have had to cross the channel and I suspect he would still have attacked Russia, I have often wondered whether he really wanted to invade England as some have said that Hitler actually thought the English and the Germans had ...

What if Hitler had listened to his Generals?
Gentlemen, In addition an earlier topic 'What if Hitler understood naval power' I have another thought, What would the outcome of WW2 have been if Hitler had listened to his Generals and Field Marshals? For instance, would he have attacked Russia without defeating Gt Britain and her allies or carrie...

Re: Graf Spee trying to escape back to Germany...
Just a few questions, what was the all up weight of AGS it surely must have been far more than 10,000 tons? The weight of AGS was 12370ts standard. Regarding AGS breaking off the fight, many years ago I heard a theory put forward that as she was a ship that had a reletivly light new all welded desi...

Gentlemen, Just a few questions, what was the all up weight of AGS it surely must have been far more than 10,000 tons? Re HMS Cumberland, I may be wrong, but I thought that she was refitted in or around 1938/9 If AGS was short of fuel what was the fuel state of Ajax and Achillies and of course Cumbe...

Gentlemen,
I believe that in the book Kirov was carrying nukes in some of her missiles in which case it would be no contest!

Gentlemen,
I would have thought that with all her anti ship missiles she would have blown the opposition out of the water long before they could get anywhere near her!

Re: Rear Admiral Bey at N Cape
Gentlemen, A most interesting post, but I wonder if the apparent lack of preparation was due to Hitler getting fed up of his Naval forces - I believe he threatened to disarm his battleships and use their guns and crews for coastal defence and Doneitz was so detirmined to prevent this that he sent Sc...

The entire KM sortie into the north sea among the fleet is the pride of the KM Bismarck and her sister Tirpitz. The RN sortie in response to the KM sortieing among the home fleet is the flag ship KGV,POW and the pride of the RN HMS Hood. The Aircraft carriers HMS Glorious, Courageous and Victorious...

As far as gunnery, ... I know that somebody wrote that the 203 mm ( 8 inches ) guns efficiency was only below 20.000 yards, ... but they could have opened fire at a greater distance, ... maybe not 100 % full efficiency, ... but given the situation and Hood under Prinz Eugen fire ... I think a guess...

Gentlemen,
To add to Dave's evaluation, I would expect the German crews to be far better trained than their Soviet counterparts.
