Re: Tovey's decision

There is no positive or negative confirmation on the(not) use of RPC for Bismarck. Most of the problems with firecontrol equipment were adressed to Scharnhorst and Gneisenau but "parts of the fire control do not meet the requirements of reliability and robustness" and they also mentioned p...

Re: Tovey's decision

Bismarck's war diary states that she did conduct main armament gunnery shoots. Gehobene Gefechtsausbildung mit Klarschiffübungen, (teilweise verbunden mit Abkommschießen), Je 2 Tageskaliberschießen der S.A. und M.A. ............. Intensified battle training with clearshipforaction exercises, (in...

Re: Tovey's decision

Additional B never conduct heavy battery firings prior to the DS. The work on the radar-controlled part of fire control lasted shortly until sortie to Bergen. Im sure that some of the recommended work according AVKS report on the fire control equipment was not completed. So the "exercise" ...

Re: Scharnhorst and Gneisenau vs Yamato

No. Not at all. A 46cm shell inflicts roughly 20% more striking energy, weighs 20% more, and contains 20% more explosive. There are advantages for the US shell, but Japanese shell will tend to be much more destructive. But the japanese shell has a projectile cross section wich is 28% larger than th...

This finding definately doesnt sound like a all or nothing armor system . But this observation shows an possible defective attachment of AP-caps on japanese shells in ge...
