Re: SMALL ERROR
I almost forgot, there is one small error in Das Boot which is not mentioned in its IMDB page. Next time you watch the film notice the u-boats enigma machine, it has four rotors, so therefore it is 'SHARK' which I don't think was introduced until 1943. The film is set in December 1941. Small error, ...

Re: Das Boot Surfacing Scene
Perhaps my favourite film. Whats great about this film apart from the attention to detail (which is impressive) is the film director (Petersen) seems to have forgotten how to make a film, its more than a film, it does not harbor all the traits of a movie (i.e. 2 hours long max, simplified storyline ...

Re: World greatest admiral?
Interesting question and a difficult question to answer, it must be remembered that different admirals had different problems and different technology, so direct comparisons can be hard. However I will try to answer this question the best I can. I agree with Karl, Heihachirö Tögö is my favorite, how...

Re: Pearl Harbor Conspiracy Theory?
'Pearl Harbor Conspiracy Theory?' this is certainly an interesting thread, and one because of conspiracies nature that's argued and argued and never concluded. I believe there is certain a large amount of circumstantial but no way of knowing for certain, or certainly not until we are all long dead. ...

Re: Navy Field
I play NavyField (arizona) KM line. I am currently up to Scharnhorst class. Good game, however, whilst trying to make the game fair for all, they have cause many problems for KM players. KM players should have some of the best armor in the game, similar to Royal navy players. ragards, hope to see yo...

Re: Battleship Top Ten
To VeenenbergR Speed is an important factor when considering old fashioned gun duels between battleships (pre-radar) as it allows the captain with the faster ship to pitch the engagement, taking account of wind speed/direction, sunlight/moonlight, which can considerably effect the enemies performanc...

Re: A new "Sink the Bismarck!" movie?
Agreed, the Bismarck would have sunk within a day, had the Germans not scuttled her during the battle. Anyhow, they would have had to scuttle her sooner or latter, after he rudders were jammed there was no hope of her returning to home waters.

Re: Peter Turcan's Dreadnoughts
Fair point, sometimes its nice to have overall control of your fleet. On the old Dreadnoughts game you can change ship (convey your flag), however the whether has to be calm and both ships have to be stopped to do this. Which can be a pain. Personally I like Dreadnoughts, it gives you a good taste o...

Re: Battleship Top Ten
I agree with this list in part... see below Most Powerfull classes were: Yamato- heaviest, biggest guns, but slow (27 kts) Iowa- fastest ship (i.e. captain can pitch the battle), so could win against Yamato South Dakota (not sure why it is here, similar armour to Iowa, but slow, 27 kts, and had prob...

Re: The best PC game
I found a good way to simulate naval battles is to use the Silent Hunter 3 mission editor, place two ships (Rodney Vs. Bismarck), for example, with set course (i.e. way points) and watch them (automatically) batter the hell put of each other! When you use the mission editor you have a little control...

Re: The best PC game
One of the best computer games (for battleships) is Peter Turcan's Dreadnoughts, its an old MS DOS based game written in 1992. I'm also a member of Navyfield, however, this game should carry a warning, as it takes years to achieve anything. I've been playing two years and have only just got my first...

The 'Das Boot' treatment...
It would need the 'Das Boot' treatment, realistic, truthful and gritty. Would welcome any such movie/film. Someone would need to decide which version of events were going to be followed, what I mean is, was the Bismarck scuttled or sunk by the Royal Navy? Personally I think they scuttled her, the Ge...

Peter Turcan's Dreadnoughts
Peter Turcan's Dreadnoughts (1992) MS DOS based computer game... One of the best battleship computer games is Peter Turcan's Dreadnoughts. An old MS DOS based games created in 1992; there is little information on the Internet regarding this game. Despite the poor graphics, this game provides impress...
