Re: Scharnhorst questions
Just an image I found on the net. I thought it was from webshots, but now I can't find them again or I would link to it.

Scharnhorst questions
Does anyone know when Scharnhorst's portside aft 150mm guns were removed from their turret? Did they stay that way for long? Were they re-installed by the time she sank?

Re: Scharnhorst in 3D
This assembly, by itself was probably 200 to 300 hours. The whole ship is at about 75% right now and has taken 7 or eight months, so going by those numbers it should be done in another three months. But I will say that every time I give someone an estimate, I usually shoot right through it. My origi...

Scharnhorst in 3D
Some of you are aware that I am doing a CAD model of the Scharnhorst. I have been getting a very good reaction to my questions here, so I thought I would post some renders here for some critiquing. Let me know what you guys think. And remember, I can't make it right if you don't say anything. :D :D ...

Get Matt Lombard's SolidWorks Bible, it really lives up to its name.

Re: Scharnhorst ammo hoists for 105mm's.
So what are the lockers under the boat racks for? Crane tackle? Maybe boat tackle?

Re: Unluckiest Warship
In this one I bow to Terje, he is proving to be more of a historian than myself. I cannot find the exact reference that led me to believe that it was on the shakedown. I might have been thinking about her first sortie when both ships were damaged due to rough seas, but I think now that her bow must ...

Re: A visual account of the Scharnhorst
Fromm the standpoint of a modeler, I really liked this book. It had a lot of detail photos, better ones in my opinion than the koop or breyer books. I think I would rather have forgone the "model plans" in the back for more photos, but I think it was well worth the 20 or so USD I spent on ...

Re: Photo Quiz #12
I am sorry, I didn't mean to imply I didn't believe that your photo wasn't on Gneisenau, I should have made it clear that it was only a passing thought until I realized Gneisenau was the only KM ship with bridge rails like that. Scharnhorst's bridge rails are similar, but the angled portion folds do...

Re: Photo Quiz #12
I have a question regarding your picture, Terje. Well actually a question about Gneisenau. Compare your picture to one I have. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj27/luet-ow/Salute.jpg http://www.tankwerkz.com/Scharnhorst/images/gnbridge.jpg At first I thought your pic couldn't have been Gneisenau ...

Re: Scharnhorst ammo hoists for 105mm's.
It's SolidWorks, actually. It has taken me since early september, so far. If you would like to see more of it, I might post some renders later on. Right now they are posted in a thread in the shipyard and drydock forum at http://www.military-meshes.com. You have to register to see the pictures though.

Re: Scharnhorst ammo hoists for 105mm's.
I actually have a couple of really good pictures of that vent that unfortunately I can't currently share, but it looks like this: http://www.tankwerkz.com/Scharnhorst/images/s92.jpg The hanger actually extends over this area so all you see is the outside of the louvres. The pictures do not show anyt...

Yes, I am sorry, I forgot there were more of those circles back there.

Re: Scharnhorst ammo hoists for 105mm's.
No, that is another vent with louvres on it. The area I was asking about is under the ships boats just ahead of the domed rangefinder tower. It's because of those boats that there are no good pictures of this area. If you look closely under the boats in the model, the modeler didn't even try to put ...

Re: Scharnhorst ammo hoists for 105mm's.
Okay, if what I am seeing is correct, the rail dips down in the back to go through the open hatch (white rectangle) behind the two crewmen. Or it has a pass through above the hatch. I am pretty certain this is the back of the bridge superstructure. The black thing that angles away above the stairs i...
