Re: Washington
as I see the Prince of Wales was not shooting very well and was very lucky to get those 3 hits. took 6 salvos to get the first straddle, then missed totally with 7 and 8, straddled with 9, missed again until salvo 13... and again from 14 to 18. 18 salvos = 3 straddles = 3 hits vs a ship with a stead...

Re: A ship history : Scharnhorst
november 1940 ok. thanks
Im not very familiar with German camos but I imagined those b/w stripes would be from around late 1940 or early 1941 like on Bismarck.
and dont let "copycats" discourage you!

ok, so the painting was different on each side.
the small photos are not very clear but this camo scheme is from 1941 before Operation Berlin, is that correct?

Re: H class Battleships
Just pulling scenarios out of thin air may be an exercise of imagination and it may be enjoyable but it hardly relates to history. so what? this forum is full of threads that hardly relate to history such as "Tirpitz shelling New York", "Kirov vs The Royal Navy (in 1941 !!!)", &...

Re: H class Battleships
Germany had a very constrained economy in the prewar period. Not just financially by the way but resource wise. If you build additional battleships the money and resources have to come from somewhere. correct, and cancelling useless projects would have helped. Ok, I will give you what you want. the...

Re: H class Battleships
As for France being defeated by "only a small portion of the German army" http://www.feldgrau.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=30229 rather implies it was the majority and not only that that it was the more expensive components of it and the Luftwaffe. no more that 25 German divisions e...

Re: H class Battleships
The German government only had a certain amount of cash and other resources to work with. If they allocate more towards ships in particular battleships then it has to come from somewhere. Even into the mid 30's it's not clear that the Nazis were in firm enough control to cut back on civilian spendi...

Re: H class Battleships
Read at least the first few chapters in Wages of Destruction and then we can discuss it. I know that book what do u want to discuss about it? My impression is that if the Nazi's had allocated enough funds to building the H class to have them complete by the late 30's then they weren't going to have...

Re: H class Battleships
lwd asked, how do you pay for additional ships? well the first thing that comes to my mind.... cancel all Nuremberg constructions and other Nazi arquitectural projects all over Germany (let Hitler live in the old chancellery), and there you have plenty of money. lwd, you are an intelligent person an...

James Cameron's Expedition: Bogus
Hello all long time! I found this interesting article that I am sharing now. It is old but I think it hit the nail in some aspects.
