Re: Scharnhorst vs Alaska

Once more, the Scharnhorsts as constructed were meant to counter the Dunkerques.... with an option to upgrade the guns.

Re: Scharnhorst vs Alaska

German and British battlecruisers had specific design attributes that separated them from battleships. One such attribute is that German battleships had three shafts and battlecruisers had four. Fluke hits happened and will be.

Even the "worst" ship can sink a "nominally superior" ship.

Re: imaginary encounter

Interesting that 14"/50 is considered of no consequence against Bismarck, and yet PoW seems to have done damage of consequence with fewer, less powerful guns. There is no question; any BB gun can damage any BB at all reasonable battledistances. The 14" /50 was weaker (penetrationwise) at ...

Re: imaginary encounter

Side protection of the american ships could be pierced to distances >25 km. The reverse appears as not possible. Its therfor likely that these american ships are inferior based on the weapons and protection. Dispersion of the german gun as well as ROF appears as superior. Bismarck could choose battl...

Re: Why no turtleback?

Bismarcks size of citadel was dictated by lenght of machinery and ammunition space/turrets.. KAmt compared original Richelieu scheme and a adopted german scheme based on the same armour weight per meter. I suspect the modified german scheme offers significantly improved protection. 6067558_4a317d203...
