Hello Monitor, It has been sometimes suggested in naval forums that it was the Prinz Eugen the ship that actually scored the fatal hit on the Hood. However, the Prinz Eugen could not have been responsible for this hit because at the time the decisive hit occurred (0600 hours) the German cruiser was ...

There is no need to apologize Luca, it is perfectly ok to refer to other websites. As for Bismarck sailing backwards, this subject has been discussed on Müllenheim-Rechberg's book. I quote from there: "Retired Kapitän zur See Alfred Schulze-Hinrichs appears to me to have the most plausible ex p...

Hello Attlante,

This forum is to discuss naval related issues and your posts are totally off topic. Yes, it is good to remember and nobody denies the holocaust, but this is just not the place to discuss that. I am sure you can find other places on the internet to do so.

Sincerely,

José

The last thing I heard from Jack back in June is that the book was finally off to the printers and it was supposed to be out in July-August. I guess publication has been delayed.

Is it possible to note on the top pic where Bismarck was built and where she was fitted out? Slipway 9. The shipyard has suffered some changes since 1940, but the equipping pier where Bismarck was moored after her launching is right there. http://www.kbismarck.com/blohmap.gif http://www.kbismarck.o...

Re: Prop rotation

That's right. The port and middle propellers rotated counter clockwise and the starboard propeller clockwise as viewed from the ship's stern facing the bow. Was Tirpitz the same? Yes. http://www.kbismarck.org/photos/tp-prop01.jpg http://www.kbismarck.com/bismarck741.jpg Bismarck in dry dock. http://...

Hello again,

9.33 m. is the construction draught (Tiefgang bei Konstruktionsverdrängung).

Breyer gives the figure of 8.7 m as the standard draught (Tiefgang bei Standardverdrängung) for a standard displacement of 42,958 tons.

Hello George, The depth of the hull sides amidships from the upper deck to keel was 15 m. The freeboard amidships varied from 4.8 to 5.67 m depending of the ship's draft. The designed draught was 9.33 m; maximum 10.2 m. 9.33 + 5.67 = 15 m. 10.2 + 4.8 = 15 m. The main 320 mm belt was about 4.8 m high...
