Re: Hits on PoW and Bismarck

I was wondering this too. From what I’ve read on here Bismarck was a very stable ship, but wouldn’t there be even a small amount of roll when at sea? Also, whilst there is standardisation, wouldn’t there be slight individual differences in the make up of a shell? I was under the impression that shel...

Re: Hits on PoW and Bismarck

Thanks Wadinga and Byron for your replies, I suppose throwing a 50,000 ton ship around is not the simplest thing to do! However, assuming Bismarck was varying her course, would a course deviation of as little as one point be enough to change the angle of impact of PoW's shell? Hi Paul, One point = ...

Re: Hits on PoW and Bismarck

"Bismarck course was around 220°until Hood explosion and this cannot be denied anymore, proven by PoW salvo plot distances." Disagree. An examination of the salvo plot and McMullen's notations 1 - If the dashed line on the plot is supposed to represent McMullen's estimation of the course o...

Re: Hits on PoW and Bismarck

"The exact shell position and path inside Bismarck is another story (in which I'm not interested very much). I don't support at all the scenario of a hit entering and exiting comp. XXI, but this is what I understand someone else (Byron) is saying." With all due respect, can you point to a ...

Byron Angel wrote: "Please forgive me for wondering why an event of such critical importance as you allege above (i.e., the speculative holing of transverse bulkhead XXI/XX by the projectile) was not remarked upon in the slightest way by anyone aboard Bismarck, including those who took part in...

Re: Hits on PoW and Bismarck

Hi Byron, you wrote (from the Baron): "Consequently, the bulkhead behind Compartment XX was being subjected not only to the pressure of static water, but, on account of the big hole in our hull, to that created by our forward motion. " Once established that Bismarck was on course around 2...

Re: Hits on PoW and Bismarck

Hi Byron, you wrote: "water, being an incompressible fluid, exerts its pressure everywhere within a filled volume" Sure, but a simple leaking will not generate ANY pressure at high speed, and it is clear that the bulkhead between XX and XIX was reinforced because of such a dynamic pressur...

Re: Hits on PoW and Bismarck

RN capital ship main batteries, certainly of the early war period, did not feature RPC capability. I might be mistaken, but I don't think that RPC became available for RN battleship main batteries until Vanguard. "Weaving" was a standard evasive tactic by German warships under close fire a...

Re: Hits on PoW and Bismarck

The fact that the bulkhead between XX and XIX had to be reinforced due to the water pressure at high speed however points to an open ripped compartment XX, not to a simple "leaking" from compartment XXI. >>>>> This is an unwarranted assumption. Once a ship was damaged and suffering floodi...

Dunmunro, My response to you was because you did not have your facts straight (for whatever that's worth at this stage of the game). My last employment before retirement was with the international trade department of the Royal Bank of Scotland, handling the international commercial letter of credit ...

Re: President Trump: mid-term

1 - The budget deficit is completely different from the national debt.
2 - The budget was balanced during the Clinton administration years because, after the first mid-term election, the Republican party achieved control of both houses of congress and thereby controlled the budget process.

Re: Hits on PoW and Bismarck

I am attempting to gently and politely point out two things - 1 - the fact that there is absolutely no primary source evidence that the projectile that struck Bismarck forward entered section XXI and exited via section XX. Not a single solitary survivor account, including those of personnel involved...

Re: Hits on PoW and Bismarck

Hi Byron, which question is still unanswered ? Bye, Alberto As a matter of courtesy, I will repeat in a simpler fashion the points upon which I requested a response - 1 - Why are the portholes in the color scheme profile positioned behind those of the longitudinal profile? 2 - Is there any proof th...
