Re: Death penalty

Thanks for your very reasoned reply Vic, it certainly gives one food for thought altough I'm afraid it does'nt alter my opinion and I suspect opinions of the many thousands of people who attended the young soldiers funeral today.
But thanks again for putting your points forward.

Re: Death penalty

I agree with RF. All I am saying that in the case of premeditated murder such as perpetrated by Dr Shipman, Dale Cregan and others where there is no question whatever of their guilt I do not see why they should be allowed to live (and cost a small fortune to keep) when they had no respect for the li...

Re: Scharnhorst Vs a KGV

Gentlemen, Please! This interesting thread is becoming increasingly confrontational which is not pleasent reading, particularly when it comes from people whose knowledge I greatly respect. I don't think that much can be proved either way in a one on one situation, except that the odds must be in fav...

Re: Death penalty

I hear that the disreputable European Court of Human Rights is now apparently saying that locking up someome for 'life' (and meaning just that) is infringing their 'Human Rights' unless they are give a chance to apply for parole, so if we are unable to lock these killers up and throw away the key th...

Re: Scharnhorst Vs a KGV

We are talking about penetration of heavy armour here, what about the damage a KGv's 14" shells are going to do to the topside, radar, rangefinders, communications, etc.? Not for the first time we are hearing about Scharnhorst's fabulous 11" guns which can shoot holes in any British battle...

Re: The Holes In Bismarck's Bow

Gentlemen,
Apparently theshell passed straight through the bow without exploding, any thoughts on the damage that would have been caused if it had?

Re: Denmark Strait and RN Articles of War

Hello everybody, @ Paul, if you read carefully my post and the " Articles of War " still valid at that time, I underline the word : " Disengagement " in front of the enemy while engaged into a battle on going. That is the indisputable fact that occurred that day involving both C...

Re: The Holes In Bismarck's Bow

Lengthy posts aid in suffusing, diverting, and mitigating factual errors. They also provide ample opportunity to establish other questionable distractions so that, when discovered, the error further deteriorates in strength as others address these distractions anew, discouraging additional particip...

Re: Death penalty

Paul, i do not know where you live on this rock of ours, but the death penalty DOES still apply in the UK for certain crimes against the state. When 1 of these individuals involved in the Woolwich death was spouting off, it has been suggested his words, which were recorded, amount to treason. Treas...

Re: Denmark Strait and RN Articles of War

Ciao all, @ Phil, I see your points and agree with you. My way to see this is very simple, given the regulations and the occurrences : 1 ) There was a battle plan agreed among Adm Tovey and Vice-Adm Holland ( Tovey on the London Gazette ), surely Rear-Adm Wake-Walker was informed either by one of t...

Death penalty

Gentlemen, A young soldier hacked to death in public in Woolwich, two young policewomen lured into a trap and shot down in cold blood, this, amongst other atrocities where there is no question or doubt about the perpetrators. Should these people not share the same fate as those whose lives they so c...

Re: Bismarck vs. Rodney: hand to hand?

Gentlemen, Just a thought, but as Rodney was built to Treaty specifications (even though she exceeded them) the Germans must have had some idea of her armour and armament, yet she was he first ship targeted by Bismarck, whose gunnery officers obviously held her to be the more dangerous ship of the t...

Re: Bismarck vs. Rodney: hand to hand?

Gentlemen, I think that I read somewhere (I cannot find the book at the moment) that almost at the end of the war Rodney was bombarding gun positions on the Channel Islands - with remarkably accurate results, presumably she had a fully worked up crew, but my point is this , she did not appear to hav...
