Re: SMS Baden Fire Control

But what about the Bayern Class? Any info on this later German design?

Also who were the first to use these gyro stabilizers you guys mentioned?

Re: German radar at North Cape

Absolutely excellent info Dave, it all just makes more and more sense now. The radar capabilities of the Germans, US & British were obviously remarkably close throughout the war, esp. within the Naval scene. No, this is not true. KM radar had an early lead but by May of 1941 it was totally outc...

Re: German radar at North Cape

Seems like the Germans were busy excusing themselves for their errors at North Cape by vastly overrating enemy radar capabilities whilst eluding to their own mistakes of failing to properly operate their own equipment (I can understand why as well, Hitler was pissed). Turning off the radar at North ...

Re: Tirpitz' Radar

Very interesting Dave, it all makes a lot more sense now. I honestly couldn't understand how the Germans could've been behind in this field considering all the work they had done before the war, heck I've even read that a German patent for the cavity magnetron was filed in the 30's. In addition to t...

Re: German radar at North Cape

regarding the hits i have to look in the despatches straddles From description in the offical dispatches it is likely they meant straddling for range Most of the time of that battle Scharnhorst presented only a end on target of about 230 m lenght and about 30 m width The problem in this case is not...

Ther is a guy quoting Dave and you are wandering around in the gaps left. but no problem come to the "experts" Are you talking about this thread?: http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/5809-the-working-environment-for-german-warship-design-in-wwi-and-wwii/ If so I was...

Re: Tirpitz' Radar

@Dave That's pretty surprising to me, I was sort of aware that the Germans possessed radar with the same range & capability, but I didn't know that they made radar sets late in the war that actually outperformed the late war allied sets so comprehensively. Did the Allies confirm this performance...

Re: Tirpitz' Radar

Thanks Thorsten, but was the detection range the same versus various types of vessels? Like for example in 43 were German & British FC radar equally capable at picking out and accurately directing fire on the same size targets?

Re: German radar at North Cape

During the ~90 min chase DoY managed to hit SH with four shells, correct? What about the remaining salvoes, how accurate were they?

Some say SH's shooting was infact the more accurate during the chase, despite firing with much less available guns, is there any truth to this?

Re: German radar at North Cape

Its my concvincing that the use of radar and radar detecting eqipment on board Scharnhorst was a complete failure, exacerbated by the failure of the forwrd system by the hit of Norfolk. Additional communication between Luftwaffe and the operational leadership on land seems also insufficient as aeri...

Re: Tirpitz' Radar

Almost forgot to ask Dave, what was the range of the radar FC onboard the BBs of the major nations in the periods mentioned before (40-41, 42-43 & 44-45?)
