Second, Alatrsite. I don´t agree with you. Stauffenberg, being a traitor to Hitler, was a traitor to Germany. Why? Because Hitler wasn´t betraying Germany. He published a book, Mein Kampf, that was very specific in what he intend to do, how he would do it and to whom he would do it. People read the...

von Stauffenberg was a traitor only to Hitler and his regime but not to Germany. Hitler betrayed Germany. But I agree von Stauffenberg can not be considered as Germany's greatest hero. The last I read about Tom Cruise movie is that the family of von Stauffenberg did not approve it and wanted Cruise ...

Central European Time is GMT+1. GMT is the Greenwich Mean Time (zero degrees meridian).

Central European Time is UTC+1 too.

So my question is what is the difference between GMT and UTC? What is UTC?

Thank you

I don't think Shinano TDS was like the Yamato. Maybe the same design but the bulkhead of the battleship is much thicker like 200mm.

Apart from the UK, in 1982, I don't think any other European naval power (except the USSR) could have taken the Falklands. The Germans didn't even have an aircraft-carrier to provide air support over the islands (and still don't have it today). Spain only had one carrier in 1982, the Dédalo (ex-USS ...

Thank you, I understand now what you are talking about. I don't think Rodney "chase salvos" during the battle. They British wanted to close the range and hit Bismarck as soon as possible and "chase salvos" would only affect her own shooting. But if you look at Bismarck plot it se...

Bismarck armed with 11-inch guns

Hello, Since Bismarck's role was to attack British supply lines, merchant ships, and not heavy warships if they could be avoided, I am thinking if it would not have been better to arm Bismarck with the already tested turrets of the Scharnhorst Class. The result would be a Bismarck with 11 inch guns ...

Re: Ranking European best navies today

Alastride, I notice that you have not mentioned the Russian Navy, the Russians having the largest country and navy in Europe. Also worthy of mention is the Dutch Navy, which has a long tradition. The problem with a question like this is that there is no real combat record for which to compare them ...

If Wasp, Saratoga and Ranger are around then maybe before the invasion takes place there is a "second battle of Midway" against the Japanese carriers? Interesting. In my opinion if the Japanese gain air superiority it is almost done. Even if 100,000 Americans are well entrenched in the bea...
