Re: A ship history : Scharnhorst
Hi Cerberus. The ship is indeed the Scharnhorst, the footage is taken from the movie "Schlachtshiff in Farht", I have posted a copy of it here that I got from a fine Russian gentleman named Max. The cylinder, I can't help much with. It wasn't a permanent fixture, it was gone by 41 or so. T...

Scharnhorst and Gneiseanu propaganda film
I recently obtained a copy of a Nazi propaganda fill entitled "Schlachtshiff in Farht" or "Ride in a Battleship" from user Yevgeniy. I am sorry I do not know his last name, but I thank him for the movie. It concerns life aboard a Kriegsmarine battleship and was filmed entirely on...

Z-39 in 3D
Some of you might have heard that Dragon is doing a Z-39 Zerstorer in 350th scale. I worked on the CAD for that as well and you can see my build gallery here: http://www.tankwerkz.com/zerstorergal.html. Let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Re: Scharnhorst in 3D
I'm pretty sure the entire deck in this area was steel. Do you have a photo showing these radial patterns? Yes but nothing I am at liberty to share, Steve provided me with a couple of excellent ones. Unfortunately you will have to wait until he decides to do his Scharnhorst book to see them. To be ...

Re: Scharnhorst in 3D
As stated before, I am not a color guy, I was more concerned with getting the model right. The round areas around the 105mm's is a radial pattern of wood decking that is flush with the steel treadplate deck.

Re: Bismarck deck details
I have seen a a couple photos of Gneisenau, one taken on her commissioning day when hitler was visiting and another later on when she was in service. The first one shows wood decking strips with very wide gaps in between on the bridge deck, while the second one shows the wood grating Rivnut just men...

Re: Camber of Scharnhorst, Prinz Eugen, Bismarck
The one thing I know about the deck camber is that the centerline peak on Scharnhorst is a straight line from the stern all the way to around the front breakwater. In other words if you look at the ship from the left or right side, you could draw a straight, horizontal line from the very tip of the ...

Re: Dragon models announces new 1/350th Scharnhorst
I agree with you completely, I think one of the major reasons why these ships are not being modeled much is because the United States and Japan were not that heavily involved with World War 1. These a countries produce a lot of the high quality models or are their biggest markets. Not really, most ...

Re: Dragon models announces new 1/350th Scharnhorst
Well, just to mention the Kriegsmarine ships, there would be Emden, Schleswig-Holstein, a K-classe, zerstorers, a liepzig class, etc. The Bismarck has been done already, the Prinz Eugen and Graf Spee are in the works, which means that all the hipper class and deutschland class are probably going to ...

Re: Dragon models announces new 1/350th Scharnhorst
Thanks gents, I appreciate it. Karl it is tentaively scheduled for very early 2010. RF, sorry, there won't be a Dragon Bismarck until they get a lot of other under-acknowledged ships done. Ships have kind of languished in oblivion for a while, and the big companies are looking for new territory to e...

Dragon models announces new 1/350th Scharnhorst
Okay, in case you haven't figured it out yet, I can finally announce why I did the CAD Scharnhorst model. It was commisioned by Dragon Models in order for them to create a 1/350th scale kit, which they have just annonced on their website. You can view the announcement here: http://www.dragon-models....
