I cannot access certain items on eBay because of legal considerations I've seen this legality taken to what is IMHO ludicrous heights. In a model of the B-17 bomber 'Memphis Belle', the plane's turrets are supposed to have 'kill' marks of little swastikas for each Luftwaffe aircraft shot down. yet ...

You know what DVD collection I'd really like to own? A compilation of war movies made in post-war Germany.

Somehow I don't think the Germans would be as enthusiastic about producing a film about Bismarck.
I hope they would. Look what they did with - again - Das Boot.

People are becoming more willing and interested in looking at that these days. For example, Das Boot was successful. True, but this was in the days when a movie's mass appeal depended on writing and acting, and not today's mishmash of explosions, stuff flying at the camera and ludicrous physics. (A...

The item about the wooden (or is it wood-colored?) anchor chain lanes is new to me. This raises the question for modelers: How would you weather such a structure? Would there be gouges and splintering in the 'wood' from the anchor chain? What would show up underneath?

Me-262:

Ha! Good point!

Actually, I was after the historical significance. The color issue is secondary. I recall the Prinz Eugen's former crew electing to bring up a propeller.

Still, the question of where to go for money is a big problem . . .

The raising of a vessel sunk in action is certainly a sensitive issue. Just recently I watched a moving account of the raising of the Confederate States of America's submersible Hunley which sank with all hands. At the very least, the salvage had answered a few questions about the sinking. I realize...

I wanted to know how the expedition fared. All I found was this: http://www.deepoceanexpeditions.com/bismarck7.html IMHO this could use more detail. A lot, actually. Anybody know of a more detailed report? (Then again, after the Ballard expedition, this one shouldn't expect to find anything new . . .)

Hans Gally, in Warship No. 35 I believe, states "On 26 May 1941 the turret roofs of the heavy and secondary armament were painted yellow but the heavy seas washed away the colour of the 15cm guns". Please forgive this landlubber question, but wouldn't wave action be more likely to wash of...

They built a model in 1:1 scale for the movie.
Hm. I wonder if there's an off-chance this is the same 'dry-land' Yamato deck and superstructure set they used in the opening scene of 'Tora-Tora-Tora"?

Man, that would have been a bear to store all these years . . .

Wow! I'm blown away by the news! I hope they have a subtitled/dubbed version soon. The Japanese version of 'Das Boot'? I recall some Japanese-made war movies I saw when I was a teen. It was refreshing to view things from 'their' side, which is devoid of propaganda (Which is more than we can say abou...

Considering James Cameron's interest in the Bismarck, IMHO there is hope that he will forego the feared love story.

I hope the producers don't use the same chestnuts Hollywood has for its cookie-cutter MTV-generation action movies: Wire stunts, explosions every thirty seconds, thunderclaps when a scene changes, dizzying camera work, 18-inch shells flying through the air in slow motion, bad-a** heroes calmly walki...

Were the davits removed, too?

Luis Gonzales states that during Rheinubung many of the Bismarck's small boats were removed (stowed?). My question is whether the davits and/or attachment points for these boats were also removed or did they remain in place?

Where can I find a picture (a drawing will be fine) of the Bismarck's anchor(s)? The one on the Tamiya model doesn't look right, and is clearly different from the ones shown in Luis Gonzales's drawings.
