Re: Your favourite Battleship
This is a tough one to answer, there are both design issues and history wich have an influence here. I have always liked the Nelson class with their special designs, the Renown class battlecruisers with their history back in WW1 make them legendary and brings many questions around. I have a hard tim...

Really bad news, i really liked the way he talked, he was that kind of person who got you emotionally involved and seemed to be a very symphatic man.

Re: Lutjens dies and Lindemann takes command
And Lindemann would have gone for PoW, I agree. The wounded British BB would have been destroyed and Bismarck, perhaps more heavily damaged that it was, would have returned to Norway in victory. . In your wet dreams Karl, every one who use common sense realize that Bismarck couldn't even go for the...

Re: Bismarck and Tirpitz meeting Vanguard and KGV
I see your point, but their speed what i know was 28-29knots for KGV and around 30knots for Vanguard,Bismarck and Tirpitz. Thats a question itself, if the Germans will take battle at 25000-30000yards wich is a clear disadvantage for them, or will they try to go for a closer range and at least closin...

Re: Bismarck and Tirpitz meeting Vanguard and KGV
The battle begins att 21000yards and the Germans choose to closing in, Vanguard maintain the distance though, while the KGV with a slightly lower speed must fight under the Gemans condition with a steadily decraising in distance down to 14000yards between them. As i see it Vanguard have the advantag...

Lets say they meet in 1943 then, and with the latest radar avaliable for both nations.

Bismarck and Tirpitz meeting Vanguard and KGV
This is what i call a fair fight, all ships are really equal in speed, the Germans have a slight advantage in firepower but instead i give the british a little favor in protection, lets say they meet in daylight with parallel courses, the first vital hit is very important here as i see it. What stra...

Re: An alternative course for PoW in the DS
I really doubt that Bismarck would direct her fire to Hood if POW went first and was the one who first opened fire against Bismarck, it seems very unlogical to not answer the ship you are under fire from at first. Especially if the fire is accurate...

Re: An alternative course for PoW in the DS
Given that Leach was to be criticised for breaking off anyway whether he did turn away to avoid the sinking Hood or when he actually did it is academic. The central problem is that POW was not battle ready and facing two enemy ships that were. The only realistic alternative course for POW lay in Ho...
