Re: Bismarcks anit-submarine/ mine

Thanks, cleared that up. Came across it in discussions over the years but always with vague excuses where to find the info. And the photos of Bismarck in dry dock also didn't help ether-way . On the anti-mine. How many paravane booms were on the Bismarck? So far I only found 4 and 2 posts for the bo...

Re: Bismarcks anit-submarine/ mine

Marc, you got me on the telescopic device? Were the 4 transmitters open to the sea water or behind some type of cover? Saw photos of Gneisenau and sister ship bow and the transmitter were in notches and open to the sea. Read a few places that say Bismarck's were enclosed, but if that the is the case...

Marc where on the forecastle would the valve be?
Was wondering where the garbage chutes would be store. Seems there was 2 garbage chute sets and a wheelbarrow or two on the 2 BS.

Bismarcks anit-submarine/ mine

Hi,

Except for the pravane in Bismarcks bow, which of her anti submarine / mine hunting suites was visible on the hull below the water line. For example, Gneisenau's transponders were visible just above her pravane port in the bow

Re: Black objects in GrimstadFjord

Hi, Wadinga, Bismarck had to enter Gotenhafen to have her one crane fixed. To enter the shallow harbor she had to lighten her oil in the road stead. After the crane was fixed she refueled again in the road stead. Near the end of the refueling a refuel pipe burst in the refueling room, instant swimmi...

Black objects in GrimstadFjord

Hi, I think anybody reading up on the history of Bismarck will have come across the photo taken of Bismarck from Prinz Eugen. (http://www.kbismarck.com/photo002.html) It is now for a long while that the black object/ spot near the stern, below Caesar turret, has puzzled me. What is it? Looks like it...

Re: Missed a spot?

Paul, when I had to do national service, if it looked like a rock it was painted white. Al the camps, even on the border, had all the paths in the camp lined with white painted rocks. Wadinga of all the Bismarck models (1:200 and up to 1:72) I have seen over the last 10 or so years on the internet, ...

Re: Missed a spot?

Hi Wadinga, The second snippet is from this site's photo gallery of when she left on her sortie. On the Facebook page of diedeutscheskriegsmarine there is another photo showing the stripe clearly. It looks like they have finished painting and are busy packing up and cleaning. (I think he has just ov...

Missed a spot?

Hi, Last week I came across a photo of Bismarck leaving Grimstad Fjord. I noticed a dark strip running down under the starboard anchor. Found same stripe on a few more photos (on is on this site) of Bismarck and the stripe at the start her last sortie. Unfortunately, the photos of Bismarck on the op...
