Forgive me if I've been ill-informed but my understanding is that Rodney had one gun inoperable for much of the engagement owing to a shell jammed in the loading mechanism. I do not recall which turret was affected. Please correct me if anyone knows otherwise.

Given the storm, and ranges of the observations, no definitive answer can be given. Also to be considered is that in the early phase of the battle, KGV was behind Rodney, and her observations were further hindered by Rodney's funnel smoke and main battery gun smoke. I married into a 'Naval' family: my father-in-law finished WW2 commanding an aircraft carrier, his father commanded a battle squadron at Jutland, various cousins/relations had similar RN posts, including a young lieutenant who was spotting officer in Prince of Wales at DS, and with my own background...
