Re: Bismarck and European battleships vs.US battleships - hull shape and seakeeping qualities.
American battleships, especially evident on the Iowa class, used that hull shape for speed. Long, thin, hulls are faster than wide hulls. To get an 800+ foot battleship to 33kts, one has to have 210,000hp+ and the most optimized hull. The power to speed curve goes up exponentially, so one needs ever...

Re: Tirpitz bell fate
Did the bell aboard Tirpitz have the same design as Bismarck’s with the eagles on 3 sides?

Thank you. Thankfully I’ve got this sorted. I contacted the folks in the link you provided almost a year ago, no luck.

Re: Identify indicator
I didn’t realize the shafts could be coupled while rotating. This makes sense, similar to what jet engines do when shutdown and restarted mid-air.
I’d imagine the revolutions would have to be closely matched to avoid damage, probably not undertaken lightly.

Re: Looking for the Lindemann Book by Grützner
Sadly I have been, for 8 months now. All of the usual avenues and channels, used book stores in Germany, eBay international and eBay Germany. I’ve even asked the original publisher for a reprint… nothing. Hopefully someone here will loan me the book or sell it to me. For a loan, I would only need it...

Re: Looking for the Lindemann Book by Grützner
Perhaps I should be a little less cagey and sweeten the deal a bit. I’ve been in touch with the Lindemann family, and they have turned over to me dozens and dozens of documents, film, and photos. Most of which relate to Bismarck, including a very interesting photo of Lindemann speaking with Oels. In...

Looking for the Lindemann Book by Grützner
Greetings! After a fairly exhaustive search across Germany, and contacting the original publisher, I still can’t get my hands on a copy of the Lindemann biography by Grützner. My last hope is that someone here has a copy they’d be willing to sell, or loan to me. I’ve looked everywhere, and sadly eve...

Re: Diameter of the extendable boom in the nose of Bismarck
I’m sure you’ve seen drawings of how this was all rigged, but one question I’ve always had, and seen dodged a dozen times, is now the line was passed from the end of bugspire to the paravane. Was it rigged by divers as I suspect?

Exercise Rhine Paint Schemes: A Request and an Offer
Greetings! I’m sure some of you know me from forums past, as I know most of you. I haven’t been too active in the historic research community in the past years but I have been around. I’m trying to get a handle on what we are now considering to be the best evidence for the Bismarck paint schemes, wh...

Re: Bismarck range
As an interesting aside, reading the notes between Raeder and his subs on the subject of the power plants for Schlachtschiffs F and G are very interesting. The hand-wringing over turbo-electric, diesels, or HP steam is fascinating in my opinion. It does seem the KM had a hard time squaring the roles...

Scratch Built Models and a Return
Greetings! I’ve been a long time lurker here, probably going on 20 years now. Some of you may remember me as one of the moderators from Asmussen’s Forum going on 15 years ago. Well, I’m still alive and a few of you I’ve kept in touch with. I’d like to re-kindle some of my old relationships. Anyway, ...
