Re: Fast Battleship League Table

I know these tests and what Nathan Okun wrote about it, but why are Yamato's turrets considered to be more likely to be knocked out? Is it just the number of hits? Concerning the faceplate: "Therefore, these plates are the only warship armor plates that could not be completely penetrated by an...

Re: Tirpitz vs. Yamato daytime March 1942

Tirpitz has 50% greater chance of knocking out battle critical systems, like directors, turrets, command stations on Yamato. Yamato could cause 20% more blast and fragment damage on Tirpitz. Tirpitz 2:1 Yamato Why is that? Aren't Yamato's turrets and barbettes immune against all penetration at norm...

Re: Fast Battleship League Table

While its good to see the German armour scheme vindicated as in being presented correctly, this presentation ignores its only glaring weakness: The turret protection. But I understand that ist would complicate things a lot. One note for Yamato would be the long underwater travel of its shells which...

Re: North Carolina vs. Tirpitz daytime 1942

Tirpitz: 15ft wide, 25 times magnification = accuracy @20km = ~306m Is that correct? Doesn't the top director have 10,5m baselength along 50 times magnification on BS and TP? I remember Thorsten pointing it out that the Germans had 50 times magnification. And please post that result on Navweaps... :D

Re: Bismarck's

The other position of this report was the contention that the AAA was not able to handle the slow speed of the swordfish ? As all targeting was visual I do not see the contection that it was unable to react "slow enough" to the aircraft? . There's an answer to that but I'm not willing to ...

Re: Best WW2 heavy cruiser = Prinz Eugen ?

Dave, could you name the primary sources for the Seetakt values, they are met with great scepticism elsewhere (which is no surprise), or are you wating till your work is published?

Re: Refitted Richelieu versus Tirpitz , 1943

With all the key problems solved on R and a later Mk 8 it should be a toss up. The decks are immune on both sides and you have easily destroyed turrets against weaker side armour.

Re: should have the prinz eugen stayed with the bismarck ?

It is beyond me how much time people like Vic Dale waste to write such excessive amounts of bullshit in forums. Now we're at a point where even native speakers are getting lectured about their own language...

Re: Hoods armour

I wonder if Nathan Okun is aware how his badly behaviour (not responding to primary source data nor naming his sources, along the tone of some of his quotes) reflect on him and his work. To be honest, a few years ago, I was very sceptical about the findings of Thorsten, Dave and Delcyros, but this h...

Re: Best U.S. cruisers at the river Platte

Its imprressive, how the Seetakt from 1936 compares to the Type 274 from 1944 (94m/0,05°) accuracy. Thanks Dave, so much for superior allied RFC...

Re: Best U.S. cruisers at the river Platte

Dave, was the Radar usable for gunnery on GS? I know it could be used for gunnery and even for blind fire later on, but IIRC from the AVKS 700 the AVKS modified BS' FC sytem to integrate the Seetakt for gunnery purpose. Was this done for GS as well?

Re: P-47 Thunderbolt: The USAAF's Best Pursuit Aircraft

I guess it was a combination of skill and luck, Hartmann e. g. would have been dead if those P-51 pilots decided to kill him after he had to bail out from fuel shortage on one occasion.

What other explanation is there? Racial superiority? :D
