Yes you are right on that just because there is no armour does not mean there is no sub division of the hull to control flooding, and the natural need for internal compartments for human habitatation. Could have 'sections' ment complete 'hull sections' ? As destroyed section of hull seems to have cleanly been sheered of to 'direct' as much explosive force straight up thru the destoryed section of hull, thus maintaining enough buoyancy of the more intact sections to give surviving crew a chance t...

For the Kriegsmarine S-boote (MTB's) smokelaying was part of their core tactics. I am not sure if they had smoke generators as such or if a substance was simply injected into their exhaust system when applying power. Those factors usually went hand-in-hand.

Considering that the technology that the XXI, and the German homing torpedoes, were based upon were known long before the emergency building programs were started, a year earlier start would certainly have created serious problems for the Allies. Also because much of the production and quality issue...

Captain Hara, CO of the Japanese cruiser Yahagi, in his book Japanese destroyer commander, writes that his ship, or others in the flotilla escorting Yamato on its latest mission, carried homing torpedoes. How could this be?
