Re: Oldenburg Battery in France
Sirs, some Russian guns from Wrangel's fleet ended up in coastal batteries. The ships were disposed of after the French government recognized the Soviet Union in 1924. Re: H L HUNLEY - First Successful Submarine
Sirs, as a VERY minor point of detail, H. L. Hunley was never officially commissioned as a 'CSS' by the CSN. In fact, all of her real-world missions while based in Charleston, South Carolina were under the control of the CSA.

Re: Recommended book on SMS Derfflinger?
Other updated WW1 capital ships that might be helpful as references would be HMS Warspite and the Italian BBs of the Cavour and Doria classes. HMS Tiger was also briefly considered as a post-WW1 candidate for modernization, but was ultimately scrapped. FWIW. B Sirs, if I may add - another refit / u...

Re: Low-tech communications
Sirs, high frequency literally means just that - High Frequency (HF). HF refers to the spectrum band of 3.000 to 30.000 MHz. HF is known for it’s long distance coverage due to skywave propagation. A whole bunch of factors go into just how far and where it can be received but High Frequency is genera...

Quite a few of Stephen Roskill's books are on US Amazon both new and used. Some within my budget, some not so much.

Since we are on the topic of Stephen Roskill, I just started reading 'Churchill and the Admirals'. So far, so good.

Mr. Heidenreich, since it looks like you never got an answer to your question, I have one recommendation. Trafalgar and the Spanish Navy: The Spanish Experience of Sea Power by John D. Harbron http://www.amazon.com/Trafalgar-Spanish-Navy-Experience-Power/dp/0870216953/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&...

Re: Building the Kaiser's Navy
Sorry to drag up an old thread. Just finished reading this book about 2 weeks ago. Good story about the rise of German naval power as driven by Admiral Alfred von Tirpitz. Well recommended. Start with Terrell D. Gottschall’s book about Otto von Diederichs, ‘By Order of the Kaiser: Otto von Diederich...
