US BBs into Tokyo Bay Jan 1945
Bit far fetched but oh well. Jan 1945 see the US intelligence gain the exact locations of the mines and bay defences in Tokyo bay. They send every available BB into the bay to bombard the brains out everything in range. With hindsight how well do you think a mission like this could go? How many US B...

Re: Battle Tracks at Denmark Strait
Simply taking the degrees turned and dividing by the number of seconds it takes to complete the turn does not give an accurate turn rate. Vic is right, ships start the turn alot quicker then they finish it. Anyone seen the one of the Nimitz carriers do their hardover turns on trials. Very cool. As t...

Anybody either know or can give an educated guess of what the Fourth ship of the Yamato class would have been called?

Re: The Decisive Battle.
I was thinking that this would be the first battle of a war. So both sides having only the experience they had before 42. Thats why I stated that the USN radar wouldn't really come into it as, in my opinion, no Admrial is going to rely on the 'new fangled technology'. Im sure the Shinano would have ...

Re: The Decisive Battle.
I wonder what it would do if we added Shinano and no.44 completed as Battleships? On a different note if the lines were to slog it out running same course side by side at around 25000yards - how long will the ammunition last? In relation to the main artillery of all the ships. Would it last an hour?...

Re: The Decisive Battle.
USS Wyoming, USS Texas, USS Mexico and USS Arkansas couldnt make the battle (thanks Tiornu) due to prior engagments. Just to even the numbers. In regards to the range doctrine, it was just something to ensure that we didnt end up debating whether or not the two lines even closed. If this was the fir...

The Decisive Battle.
The BIG one. The USN and IJN close for the battle royal. Clash of the titans. Battle of the Brutes. In the left corner stand the United States Navy: USS Pennsylvania USS Arizona USS Nevada USS Oaklahoma USS Wyoming (No Utah) USS New York USS Texas USS New Mexico USS Mississipi USS Idaho USS Tennesse...

Re: Soviet invasion of Germany
Its funny how people hold Russia as this unbeatable nation in regards to ww2. It seems that the 'huge manpower reserves' has put russia in the unbeatable class of nations. Its not til you read into it that you discover that Russia was at the end of its rope in beating Germany. Take away the lend lea...

Re: Musashi Wreck Found?
Actually Legend- I wonder if it was the boilers that popped. I saw the aftermath of a boiler explosion just recently. It was a modern presha model that blew. Its must have gone at around 750kpa. Th shed it was housed in had the doors blown out and the sheet metal walls were buldgd in many places. Th...

Re: Soviet invasion of Germany
One of the key failings of Germany's attack on Russia was her failure to forfill the liberator act. If they had of not pursued the Genocide thing alot of manpower would have been lost to Russia and gained by Germany. In doing that, in my opinion, would have seen the door kicked in and the whole plac...

Re: Musashi Wreck Found?
Boiler Explosion? I would think that the Magazine went. There is no way that steam alone could rip apart a battleship hull like that. There was apparently AA amunition stored in spaces along side the main magazine that caused the bang. Boilers do go boom in a big way, but not like that.

Re: Musashi Wreck Found?
From combinedfleet.com and the TROM for Musashi: "Sunk: At 1936, MUSASHI capsizes to port and sinks by the bow in 4,430 feet of water in the Visayan Sea at 13-07N, 122-32E. Two explosions are heard." Ive read that too. I would like everybody to know that I am in complete denial about thos...

Re: Musashi Wreck Found?
The bottom of the trench? Thats over 10ks deep in places. Wonder what the level of preservation would be. One would think that Musashi would look alot like Bismarck due to them being around the same depth (?-Ithink). Be good if they could bring a turret up from the Musashi and calculate how many rou...

Re: Big gun Barrel Re-lining (Yamato)
Inregards to the Iowas: Do you guys know of any photos ofthe procedure (relining) or actual dates when the ships were in port having it done. Ive searched the net and cannot find anything. In regards to Yamato: Its been stated on that if the Midway exercise was successful that the Yamato would not h...
