Re: 70th Anniversary, sinking of the Bismarck
Its strange when you think about. Looking at a clock today at 0840 and watching it tick away time, remembering that 70 years ago, at that moment hundreds are dying as Mighty Bismarck fights to the death. 0930? To use the words of General William T. Sherman, "War is Hell". I love thais Karl...

Re: Wikipedia - Word of Warning
I dont have anything to say other than "Typical Wikipedia". I understand that they are now banning people who trash some articles. Whenever you edit something, there is a list of your edits as well as your IP address. Wikipedias idea is good. only it obviously doesn't work out well. Bias i...

Re: Admiral Graf Spee Current Condition
I'm sure there is money available for anything the politicians want to spend it on. The British budget deficit doesn't count for example when it comes to dropping some bombs and missiles on Libya...... Probably RF, they say one thing and do another. I remember not to long ago how the US wasn't goin...

Re: Killing the Bismarck
Very true. I apoligize for my rash reply. I'm sure this would be any navy's reaction when their flagship is sunk. Didn't think twice before blatently using the word 'propaganda'.
Speaking of this, does anyone know if the Germans wrote anything like that after Bismarck was sunk?

Re: Who fires first wins ?????
Geez thats almost scary. As Fieldmarschall Rommel said "I have found again and again that in encounter actions, the day goes to the side that is the first to plaster its opponent with fire. The man who lies low and awaits developments usually comes off second best. Guess this is only true for t...

Re: Japan Earthquake
Very true. They said that this is the worst disaster since and hardship since the end of the 2nd World War. Bad planning on some Japanese designer to put the plants on the coast, but perhaps they thought something like this would never occur. Good thing that their Nuclear problem is nothing on the s...

Re: Japan Earthquake
Geez,
I can't even begin to comprehend what they must be going through. First, an earthquake quickly followed by a tidal wave, now an explosive nuclear reactor. AND they fear another earthquake is in the making.
I'm so sorry for Japan.

Re: Effect of bombs on Tirpitz
Even if the Tallboy's didn't detonate, they would still cause a huge amount of damage by going right through her. I think this happened to the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau in Brest didn't it?

Re: 67 years ago tonight
A book that was recommended to me in my on Scharnhorst post was the book "Die Scharnhost" by Alf R. Jacobsen, one of the discoverers of the wreck. Contact Glasisch for more details! As far as I know the only photos are in a documentary (recomended by Antonio Bonomi) and a sonar image in th...

German Destroyers
Hello Everyone, Can some explain to me how the flotilla numbers worked for the German Destroyers of WWII? The first number I think is the flotilla number, and the second, the ship number, but i've come across photos with the pennant numbers in them, and they don't make sense. :? Can someone please r...
