Re: Tirpitz accompanies Bismarck in Operation Rheinubung

Isn't that why these are called hypothetical engagements? Hypothtical means "existing as or involving something that exists as an unproven idea, theory, or possibility"

Re: What if Bismarck hit Rodney first?

If Bismarck had landed a good shot to Rodney I think the it would have been a moral booster to the crew and might have made the KGV crew a little nervous; and might have helped the Bismarck survive the onslaught. KGV runs low on fuel and by the time the Ark Royal is in position to launch the HE-111s...

Tirpitz accompanies Bismarck in Operation Rheinubung

What would have happened in Operation Rheinubung had Tirpitz been accompanying Bismarck instead of Prinz Eugen?

Re: Bismarck vs. Rodney: hand to hand?

I read somwhere in a book by ludovic Kennedy and quoted in Wikipedia that " As it was, the Luftwaffe appeared over the battle area an hour after Bismarck had sunk. 17 Kampfgeschwader 28 He 111s attacked Ark Royal but their bombs missed. A Focke-Wulf Fw 200 Condor had sighted Rodney but was unab...

Re: Bismarck vs. Rodney: hand to hand?

I agree that the Rodney could have been dispatched with as Hood was; and KGV probably could not have done Bismarck in by herself because of fuel constraints also the cruisers would have kept their distance of even a crippled Bismarck if they had been by themselves. Bismarck probably would still have...

Re: KGV in POW's place on 10th December 1941

Yes that is really tragic that the Brewster Buffaloes that were supposed to provide aircover for POW were not there. Do you think KGV would have survived on 10th December 1941 if she had been in POW's place? I suspect that she would have survived. KGV had some advantages over PoW. She was not damage...

Re: Bismarck vs. Rodney: hand to hand?

Well I would say maybe I was a little sweeping in my comments; however I also would not say the Bismarck would have a hard time against yamato or SD class or Iowa; yes circumstances do play a role and crew moral and leadership and of course some luck is always involved; but overall I guess it might ...

Re: BS speed - last battle

And where is your empirical evidence that gunfire sank the Bismarck bgile? To Iwd and Bgile. Ok I'am quite convinced by all your information. I found it not very convenient that Iwd wrote about "lurking" or "no logic" or "strawman". That gives me a feeling you don't tak...

Re: Bismarck vs. Rodney: hand to hand?

I also fly the Canadair-604 Challenger as a professional pilot for Rockwell, you can congratulate me on that also; and actually yes I know many of those on this site have been studying this for a long time; but because I have put my eggs on the Bismarck against the RN ships it seems many of you do n...

Re: Bismarck vs. Rodney: hand to hand?

Actually I have been studying this from the time I was about 10 yrs old. Am now a Senior Systems Engineer for Rockwell; sir I know we all know Bismarck was a powerful ship as was the KGV, the Yamato , The DOY, the Rodney, The Hood and the Iowas; but I am making statements based on what happened in ...

Re: Bismarck vs. Rodney: hand to hand?

Scharnhorst was defeated by shear numbers of ships not by ships that were superior and it was not just the duke of york there were several other british ships that had surrounded the scharnhorst another combat historical fact that you my friend are not recognizing! Re: Bismarck vs. Rodney: hand to hand?

Actually, no it is not my favorite ship; But it seems to me we are getting off the subject of which you started; the Rodney against the Bismarck. And I am starting to wonder if you know anything about what happened in the Denmarck Straits; I am making comments based on facts of a battle you sir are ...

Re: Bismarck vs. Rodney: hand to hand?

Provide them then! Well, this scoring system is funny, but no more. If BS could really achieve the 3,3 RPGPM, she would have to fight at a few kilometres, since her gun range at the loading angle is not very far. Besides, she never achieved this RoF in her engagements. Scharnhorst et 3rd place is la...

Re: Bismarck vs. Rodney: hand to hand?

Well the Yamato was never proved in combat was it.! The Bismarck and Scharnhorst were; you must accept that as fact my friend. The yamato never was engaged by another battleship so I would say to you that labaling the yamato as the most powerful battleship afloat is also unrealistic. Yes, I've seen ...
