Re: Hood v Vittorio Veneto

Bottom line the 3 Littorio's were much better battleships if compared to the 3 QE's, ... and the difference has been made only by their very poor utilizaion in war, ... and the RN air superiority at sea. Well utilized it would have been a no game battle, ... hands down. Bye Antonio :D I am reminded...

Re: Bismarck vs. Rodney: hand to hand?

Hello, As for discussion about who would win based on theoretical scenarios they are all flawed. The Bismarck wasn't designed to go toe-to-toe with British capital ships. Arguing that she could of beat any of them is really conjecture because the people who built her and those who sailed on her kne...

Re: Bismarck at DS with better radar

There was not any cruiser to Scheer under 15000 yards, what is a very big differnce to 9000yards!

Re: Bismarck at DS with better radar

Hello,

their was no Radar fault, both cruisers (Norfolk and Suffolk) were spotted at the entry of the Denmark Straight under 10000 yards!
It was only and only Lütjens fault to not open instantly fire and blow them out of the water!

Re: Bismarck Tirpitz Scharnhorst vs King George V Prince of Wales Hood

It is very important to cap the shell and 145mm are capping BB shells surely but not 45mm.

Re: Bismarck Tirpitz Scharnhorst vs King George V Prince of Wales Hood

I though the Bismarck class and Scharnhorst class were pretty similar in armor protection? A little more deck armor for the Bismarck from what I gather, but otherwise pretty similar? Also seems the 11.1" gun was worse, but not terribly so in penetration to the British 14"/45 On the Prince...

Re: Bismarck Tirpitz Scharnhorst vs King George V Prince of Wales Hood

?????, Are you a little crazy? we have talked about Hood and her armour layout and she was built from WWI armour, with about 30% less residence compare to WWII armour. Have you read, that SH could easily sank a modern KGV? Your bias is a little crazy! SH could stand it's man in a battleline with BS ...

Re: Bismarck Tirpitz Scharnhorst vs King George V Prince of Wales Hood

Hello, it is very decisive where in the battleline SH is driving. The germans are not stupid and SH could fight most effectiv against Hood and her "old" armour. Against Hoods armouur SH had a penetration power up to 300mm at 20000yards. The shorter the range, the better for SHs upper belt,...

Re: Kriegsmarine 8.2 inch guns

Hello, I can't see any advantages for this whole effort. What can you reach? A gun with 135-140kg shell weight and a muzzle velocity between 900-925 mps. That would hardly make any differences, also the german 20,3cm L60 was next to the USS 8"/55 Marks 12 and Mark 15, the hardest hitting 8 inch...

Re: Kriegsmarine 8.2 inch guns

Hello, some things to correct. The 21cm SK L/45 didn't shot a heavier shell then the 21cm SK L40, both shot 108kg AP L 3,1, the main differnce was the muzzle velocity 780mps 21cm SK L/40 to 900mps 21cm SK L45. The range matters most on the shell design, so a 1935 APC shell ( APC L 4,4) for the 21cm ...

This are the cabel channels (orange), where all cables and communications of Bismarck were running.
This is from original drawing posted bei Thoddy at an other Forum.
All other claims are simply wrong and myths.

I think it was far more. He was an accessory of war crimes, he also knew partly of the Holocaust (he told his son about this). But he was involved at the 20. July 1944, he was the man who ordered to exchange the jewish prisoners of Bir Hakeim 1942, before they could go to the continent. He was supre...

Re: What if Hitler had listened to his Generals?

Ouch! It does'nt look to good for us Brits then. I suppose he would still have had to cross the channel and I suspect he would still have attacked Russia, I have often wondered whether he really wanted to invade England as some have said that Hitler actually thought the English and the Germans had ...
