Destroyers vs. battleships - Comprehensive list from WW2 (al

Hi all, I'm trying to build a comprehensive list of all destroyer vs. battleship/capital ship engagements during the Second World War. These can be single-ship battles, like HMS Glowworm ramming the German heavy cruiser Admiral Hipper . (I know the Admiral Hipper isn't a battleship, but a heavy crui...

Re: 10 moments that changed the course of the war at sea

Thanks for commenting on the list. I still need to do much more research to pin down an accurate list--and define my search criteria better. Right now - however - my target is those small, unknown (or inexplicable) moments or decisions that had out-sized or unforeseeable impact on the war. Big battl...

10 moments that changed the course of the war at sea

I'm researching topics for a WW2 book or series of magazine articles. One option I'm considering is a list of 10 events or decisions that created an out-sized impact on the overall war at sea. Some of these impacts were accidental, others were totally intentional--but had compounding effects down th...

Re: Best unknown tales from WW2 naval history

Thanks for these tips. I've heard of those examples, but only vaguely. So they are good to explore more.
Now I just need to discover if American readers are willing to buy books about the Royal Navy?

Best unknown tales from WW2 naval history

I've got a challenge. What are the best unknown stories from World War II? I'm particularly interested navy stories. I'm referring to stories like Hampton Side's book "Ghost Soldiers" about the Ranger raid on the Cabanatuan POW camp in the Philippines. Few people knew about that story unti...

Re: Know any U.S. cities seeking USS JFK as museum ship?

The second city vying for the JFK is still a mystery. Jacksonville is not it. And they just got a real nuclear carrier homeported there.

And here's the article on the JFK donation I wrote for Portland (Maine) magazine:

Two cities vying for ex-John F. Kennedy - which ones?

I've learned that there are two cities vying for the ex-USS John F. Kennedy, the conventional-powered aircraft carrier the Navy has decided to donate as a museum ship/memorial. One is Portland, Maine. But I don't know the other city. Does anyone know the identify of the other city/organization in th...

Know any U.S. cities seeking USS JFK as museum ship?

Hi all, I am writing a magazine article on the donation of the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) as a museum ship and memorial. As you might now, the JFK is the most recent ship placed in Donation/Hold status. She’s currently berthed in the Philadelphia Naval Yard (actually, in the Delaware River because ...
