CHURRUCA CLASS DESTROYERS
(Third Series)

Destroyer Álava
Destroyer Álava.

Álava and Liniers were the first destroyers built in Spain after the Civil War (1936-1939). They were initially ordered in 1936 but the war frustrated the construction and their keels were not laid down until 1944. In 1959, both ships entered dock where they were modernized, reclassified as ASW fast frigates, and commissioned again in 1962. After modernization new armament and sensors were installed, a boiler was removed from the ships, and their top speed was reduced to 29 knots.

Destroyer Liniers
